Friendliest Cat Breeds

Cats are generally known for their friendly and outgoing personalities, but some, more than others, are known well for their friendliness and affectionate behaviors. Knowing which cats have a more friendly personality than others is important to take into consideration when planning to adopt a new feline friend.

There are some child or dog-friendly breeds, while there are also some breeds that only want to be friendly with their human owner. For some individuals, a cat who is only okay with their human isn’t a problem. Many others are on the hunt for a cat that is great with children and/or dogs. It all really depends on your household. So, before you head out to adopt, consider how friendly a cat you want in your home.

Abyssinian

Ask any cat expert, this breed of cat is hands down the most friendly cat breeds around. Abyssinians are great with humans of all ages as well as other cats and even dogs that are a part of the family.

Abyssinians are bubbling over with personality and always like to be right by their owner’s side. This means your Abyssinian will follow you into the bathroom, rest on the couch with you on a lazy Sunday afternoon, or just hang out with you in your home office for hours on end. Just be prepared for a cat who never runs out of energy. When they are not running around exploring their surroundings, they will be glued to your side showing constant affection.

Maine Coon

The Maine Coon, also known well as the Gentle Giant, lives up to their name. Their voluptuous silky fur coat is so warm and inviting you’ll just want to lay down and take a nap on them. Don’t be surprised if your Maine Coon lets you do just that.

Their laid back and nonchalant personality is perfect for nearly any home. These cats will live happily in a home that has other cats or even dogs. Maine Coons are definitely one of the friendliest cat breeds with dogs. They will also make a great companion for any babies or children who also reside in the home.

Scottish Fold

These quirky little cats make great companions for cat lovers of all ages as well. Their lovable disposition will have you falling in love at first sight. If their friendly personality doesn’t win you over, their adorably folded ears will.

A Scottish Fold will easily fall into a daily routine with you, as they are creatures of habit. They may even become a bit thrown off of anything interferes with the way they know their routine to be with you.

A quirk that these cats are most well-known for is their ability to stand up on their two hind legs. This trait can also be affiliated with its friendly personality. Sometimes you will see them in this pose if they are looking out the window to see what new friends might be walking down the sidewalk in front of their home.

Ragdoll

This cat breed certainly lives up to their breeds name of “rag doll”. They won this fitting name because of the fact that their body goes limp like a rag doll when being held by their owner. Rag Dolls are undeniably a child-friendly cat breed to have in the home with little ones.

Ragdoll cats are the epitome of laid-back cat breeds. As much as they love to just lay around and relax, they love being by their owner’s side just as much, if not even more. Often times Rag Doll owners will say that their precious kitty follows them around non-stop, looking for love and affection from them.

Ragdolls are also an intelligent breed of cat. Some Rag Doll owners have said that they have been able to teach their Rag Doll how to play fetch. After you’ve lived with a Rag Doll cat for some time you may start wondering to yourself whether you’ve adopted a cat or a dog.

Persian

Persians are well known for their laid back and affectionate personalities. Often when you think of a cat you imagine an independent little creature who doesn’t mind their own quiet time alone after their daily petting session with their beloved owner. The Persian will often remain at their owner’s side even long after getting some petting and one on one attention. They simply love attention and cannot get enough of it at times.

You won’t find your Persian far from your sight at any time of the day. If you’re not sitting with your lap available for them to sit on, they will likely be nearby, watching your every move. Some Persian owners will tell you that their cats do a lot of “sitting around, looking pretty.

Conclusion

There aren’t too many breeds of cats out there that aren’t incredibly friendly on some level. The above breeds are, by far, the friendliest breeds of domesticated cats. You could live happily with anyone of them in a home that also has other cats, a dog or two, and children.

If you are looking for a friendly breed of cat to bring home to your family, look no further than the Abyssinian, Maine Coon, Rag Doll, or any of the other breeds listed above. You will never be at a shortage of affection or one on one attention with any one of them at home.
