Everything You Need to Know About the LaPerm Cat

When looking for the best cat breed for your family, there is some research that should be done. You can look into different traits, personalities, life expectancy, and many other things when picking out the perfect cat for you and your family. However, you may want a cat that fits in the one-of-a-kind category. One cat that fits this bill is the rare LaPerm cat breed. These cats have curly fur. The curls on their chest, ears, and throat are tight and adorable. This guide will help you to get a better sense of whether this is the cat you want to bring into your family.

LaPerm Cat Origin

Before going through with the LaPerm cat adoption, you may want to know more about the origin of this cat breed. In the year 1982, on an Oregon farm, a brown-colored tabby cat had 6 kittens. One of these kittens looks quite different than the others. This kitten had no hair. She did have tabby markings, though. Her ears were more apart than the other kittens. After a while, her hair grew in, but it was curly.

After Curly was bred with a Manx, Siamese, and other cats, it was realized that all of her kittens had curly hair, as well. In 2002, the International Cat Association labeled this type of cat as the LaPerm cat breed.

That is how the LaPerm cat came to be. Now many people are getting a LaPerm kitten to add to their family.

LaPerm Cat Physical Characteristics

Before you look into LaPerm cat adoption, you may want to know a bit more about their physical characteristics. While you may have seen a picture or two of these cats, it is a good idea to know what to expect before bringing any pet into your home.

The LaPerm cats are a type of rex breed. They are in homes all across the world. With this being said, geneticists have noted that the LaPerm cat breed isn’t like other rex breeds. They are built very athletically. Their body is quite muscular and strong. However, they are similar to other rex breeds in some ways. For instance, just like all other rex breeds, a LaPerm kitten can have any color coat.

One of the most unique things about the LaPerm cat is the way their coat curls and the feel of their coat. It is textured and not silky. If you get a LaPerm kitten, when they grow up you can expect them to only be around 5-8 pounds. These cats aren’t very big compared to many other cat breeds.

LaPerm Cat Personality

Another thing that you should consider before getting a pet for you and/or your family is the pet’s personality. You may think that all cats act the same. They are lazy, right? That isn’t necessarily the case with the LaPerm cat breed. In fact, many LaPerm kitten owners say their kitten acts like a clown. These cats are masters at opening up doors, moving objects, and tapping on you to get your attention. They are extremely smart. If you go through with the LaPerm cat adoption, you can likely expect your cat to follow you throughout your home.

With this being said, your LaPerm kitten may be independent at times, too. They might like to sit on your lap or near you for part of the day. The rest of the day they may want to run and hide behind the couch.

Overall, the LaPerm kitten is patient, affectionate and friendly, quiet, gentle, smart, and playful. They are very pleasant pets.

Taking Care of the LaPerm Cat Breed

It doesn’t take a lot of work to take care of the LaPerm cat breed. You will need to comb their hair 2 to 4 times each week. However, if you keep up on this, it will only take you a few minutes each time. By combing their hair regularly, their coat shouldn’t tangle. In addition, regularly combing their coat will reduce the amount of shedding they have.

Conclusion

If you are looking to get a cat for yourself and/or your family, there are many things that you may want to consider. You could just get a regular, well-known cat breed like the Maine Coon or any Calico cats. However, you could also get a less-known, funny, smart, playful, unique, and interesting cat breed - the LaPerm cat. While you might not find this cat breed in your local pet store, you can look online for someone who has a LaPerm kitten for you to bring into your family.

Do LaPerm cats shed?

This type of cat is medium in size and they have long legs. Their fact is wedge-shaped. Their ears are flared and large. With this being said, they do have quite a bit of hair. The LaPerm cat breed doesn’t shed much on their undercoat. If you groom them regularly, they won’t shed much anywhere else either. However, if you forget to groom them, they will shed.

What is a LaPerm cat?

The LaPerm cat is a type of cat breed. They have very curly hair. If you look on their belly, on their ears, and on their throat, this is where you will find their tightest curls. When looking into LaPerm cat adoption, you will see they are available in many patterns and colors. Usually, the LaPerm cat breed is affectionate, funny, smart, and playful.

How much is a LaPerm cat?
