American Pitbull Puppies: Get to Know this Misunderstood Breed

The American Pitbull, as well as any other dog that is considered to be a Pitbull, are among the most misunderstood and misjudged breeds of dog known to man. In recent years, the American Pitbull has been making a comeback as a family favorite, as the light continues to be shed on their wrongfully placed bad reputation.

Knowledge is power, and the more that you know and understand about this amazing breed of dog, the more you will see that having a fear of Pit bulls is not necessarily something that they brought on themselves. Their appearance is, however, is misleading for their gentle-natured personality. They love their families and would do anything to protect them, making them a great guard dog, too. Pitbull dogs are far more than meets the eye, no doubt about that.

Different Type of Pit bulls

There are a few, well-known breeds of Pitbull out there, all of which are amazingly kind and loving little creatures, contrary to popular belief. All Pitbull dogs are known for their intelligence as well as their undying loyalty to their human. There are several purebred breeds of pits as well as a few mixed breeds that exist out there. Getting a Pitbull puppy of any breed will be a handful, but more so in a good way than not.

American Pitbull Terrier

Within the breed of American Pitbull Terrier, there are a few different Pitbull colors that are quite prominent within this breed. For instance, the Rednose pittie and the Bluenose pittie are two variations of the umbrella breed of the American Pitbull Terrier.

The Rednose Pittie is easily differentiated from its counterpart the Bluenose Pittie. Rednose is born with a distinct red color to its nose, as well as a copper-colored coat of fur. These smart, loyal Pitbulls are considered to be a rare variation of this breed. Which means you might pay a pretty penny if you have your heart set on adopting a Rednose puppy.

The Bluenose is also a favorable breed of Pitbull that breeders will often charge a hefty amount of money for especially for the puppies. The bluenose is typically found to be born with a bluish-grey color to their fur as well as to their eyes. Meaning, if you are in the market for a brown Pitbull puppy, you will more than likely need to look for a Rednose, or another hybrid Pitbull that tends to have brown fur.

The downside to Bluenose’s, however, is their potential health problems. Their blue hue is a result of having a lack of melanin. This particular mutation can also lead Bluenose pits to have certain health problems such as problems seeing and hearing, in addition to having a weakened immune system.

As a puppy, these issues may not be immediately apparent, so keep them in mind when on the hunt to adopt a pittie puppy. Be sure not to let the excitement of adopting a puppy overshadow the considerations that need to be taken.

You need to know how much you'll spend on your pet's health. “Can I afford this puppy’s future health needs?” or “Do I have the heart to take care of a puppy that may grow up to have a problem seeing or hearing me?”

Caring for your dog

Caring for your dog is sometimes a full-time job. There are so many things to know, and so little time to research!

Here at Petsmont, we have a team whose only job is to research the best ingredients for dog products. And because Fleas & Ticks are such a big headache for dog owners, we have developed our very own & natural Flea & Tick Collar for dogs. Say goodbye to fleas, your dog will thank you!

If you live in a rural or urban area, you will want to shield your dog's paws from hard surfaces, hot pavement or even salty ice. The same way we hoomans need lipstick, our furry friends need paw balm! And because we only want the best for them, we have developed a USDA Certified Organic Paw Balm for dogs. No more dry, cracked paws. You will see a difference after the very first application.

Pitbull Mix Breeds

Highly coveted Pitties such as the Rednose and Bluenose are often bred with other Pitties of the same breed in order to maintain the purebred gene. However, in doing this they are shrinking the gene pool, which leads to the previously mentioned health problems that are sometimes faced in these breeds.

In an attempt to widen the Pitbull gene pool, breeders have bred Pitties with other dog breeds such as huskies and Rottweilers, in order to create a more stable, healthy breed of Pitbull. Young Pitbulls, by nature, and especially when bred with these other sturdy breeds of dog, are strong and resilient from the time they are born and on.

For instance, the Pittweiler (Rottweiler and Pitbull mix) is an incredibly loyal and loving hybrid breed of dog. Not to mention their adorably giant smile that they will probably always greet you with.

Then you have the Pitsky (Pitbull and Husky mix), which is another breed that will win your heart over instantly. It’s been noted that this mix more often takes over the dog temperament of the Husky more than the Pitbull. Meaning, this dog is full of energy and will always have you on the go. They are a breed that you cannot allow to sit idly bored. They may resort to dogging and howling out of boredom.

Bringing Home Your Pitbull Puppy

Rule number one when it comes to bringing home a Pitbull puppy: Anything is fair game when they are in the mood to chew. Be prepared for these little chompers to sink their teeth into anything they can get their paws on, from day one.

This is why early training of Pitbull puppies, as well as any puppy breed, is so important. You should also puppy-proof your home before bringing home any dogs with you.

These little pups are also born with seemingly endless supplies of energy. You will want to get into a regular schedule of walking and playing every day, in order to expend some of their limitless energy. This is also a great time for you and your new pup to bond and get to know each other.

Conclusion

For years now, Pitbulls have been a misunderstood breed that have been seen as monstrous and dangerous. But just like with any breed of dog, or even humans for that matter, they are only a product of their environment. When raised in a loving and nurturing home, Pitbull are among some of the happiest and most loving breeds of canine. They live to please their human and want nothing more than to make their person happy.

How much is a pitbull?

Depending on their breeding and who you decided to adopt from, Pitbulls can be a rather pricey breed of dog. On average, you will likely pay somewhere in the range of $500-$2,000 for a purebred pitbull.

Are American pitbull terriers good dogs?

When raised correctly, in an environment filled with love and respect, pitbull terriers make excellent pets for individuals as well as families. They are easy to train and great with children. Not to mention they have an incredibly loving and faithful personality.

Is pitbull a breed?

The American Pitbull Terrier is a Breed, but the term “pitbull” alone does not refer to a breed of dog. Often people will refer to dogs with certain traits, such as a muscular physique and broad head shape, as a pitbull.
